Wenshan Baozhong Oolong
I had my share of Wenshan Baozhong oolong teas in the U.S. throughout the years and never found anything so special to add to my own personal collection until I went to New Taipei City. There I met the Bai family, whom for 5 generations has kept some of the best tea treasures in the island so I had to get some of their teas to share with all of you. This is a competition grade Wenshan Baozhong Oolong and went to win 2nd place in one of the most recent tea competitions.
Baozhong Oolong is also known as Pouchong. It is one of the lightest oolongs and known as one of the purest oolongs with lower oxidation ranging sometimes from 8%-12% . Back in the early days of this tea, it was traditionally wrapped in special paper and so became known as Baozhong, the “wrapped kind.”
Meet the Bai Family
Mr. and Mrs. Bai, and their sons Jacob and Sun.
Story
The Bai Family has a longstanding history in the art of tea, spanning five generations. The youngest generation today, was initially discouraged from entering the family's tea trade. Instead Jacob and his brother Sun pursued their education while fostering a love for surfing in Yilan, Taiwan. However, as their parents' health declined, their family’s legacy became front of mind and stirred something within them. Conversations with close friends led to a pivotal decision: to return to their home and embrace the tea heritage of their family.
Yet their journey wasn't just about preserving tradition; it was about blending it with modern cultivation practices. With their father as their guide, Jacob and Sun sought to infuse traditional techniques with contemporary science, creating teas that were not only steeped in history but also crafted with precision.
Now we invite you to indulge in this same legacy and order some of the Bai Family’s Tea brought to you exclusively by My Tea Places.

Wenshan Baozhong Brewing Instructions
Western Style Brewing: Western Style Brewing: Infuse 3g of loose leaf tea in 6oz-8oz of water at 190°F-200°F for 1 min (infuse the tea leaves multiple times)
Tea set recommendation: White porcelain pot or white porcelain gaiwan. Since white porcelain tea sets conduct heat quickly and are airtight, they can best express the clear aroma of Baozhong tea.
Traditional Style Brewing with gongfu tea pot or gaiwan: Add Baozhong tea leaves until the teapot is about 70% full. Increase or decrease the amount of tea according to personal taste. Pour in hot water of about 194°F - 203°F. Wait for about 30 seconds after pouring the hot water. After the second infusion, increase the time of each infusion by about 5 to 10 seconds. You can infuse for about five to six times.
