It might sound a little odd, but one of Garrett’s criteria if we were to get a cat, was that he didn’t want a cat that meowed. For me I wanted a cat that liked us both. Garrett had his checklist of desired traits, and I had mine. Geneva was the last cat we saw that day when we went looking. Her sweet nature won us over instantly, even though she remained silent during our initial encounter. The next day, as I was taking her home, she let out a tiny chirp revealing her gentle voice, as if she was saving her words for the right moment.
On her first night with us, Geneva was quite shy and preferred to hide until she came bursting with energy suddenly, as she galloped around our apartment and furniture. This made us wonder what kind of cat we adopted and if this was the reason she had made it to the shelter. A little research taught us that this was normal feline behavior, and Geneva's playful sprint was all it took to cement her place in our hearts.
Geneva's story reminds us of the countless pets in Ukraine longing for love and freedom. In solidarity with them, Geneva will donate $5 from each box sold to the Hachiko Foundation, supporting displaced pets on the frontlines of conflict. Every furry friend has a story, and it's our hope that they are not forgotten.
